Organizational Structure
Our organization is led by a Board of Directors who provide general governance and managerial oversight for the organization. The Directors also have the responsibility to identify, select, and secure funding for each project.
Each identified project is led and carried out by a Subcommittee specifically organized for the purpose of completing each project and developing a sustainable framework by which the rebuilt structure will be maintained on a continuous basis. For example, the Ikere Palace project falls under the jurisdiction and leadership of the Palace at Ikere Subcommittee.

The primary responsibilities of the Directors are to:

Select the specific project site to be addressed
-
Recruit appropriate Subcommittee members having the skills, technical expertise and wherewithal to engage in, and complete the project on schedule
-
Help raise the funds necessary to fund the project through completion
-
Raise funds to cover minimal administrative overhead
-
Administer and account for the use of funds with appropriate fiduciary responsibility
|
The primary responsibilities of the Subcommittees are:
-
To develop a detailed project development plan, including a comprehensive budget for each project
-
Once funding is obtained, manage and actually complete the project utilizing a hands-on approach as necessary
-
Develop a local framework, specific to each project, which will provide for project sustainability and maintenance

Regional Centers
As Executive and Sub-Committee members do not necessarily reside in close physical proximity to one another, the Initiative will on a day-to-day basis, generally function utilizing “virtual” facilities, such as collaborative communication and on-line meeting tools. As the Initiative is a pan-African initiative and a physical presence on the continent is an important statement, the Initiative will rotate the physical headquarters throughout the continent (North, South, East & West) every five to seven years, at the discretion of the Executive Committee.

Academic Resources
In recognition of the fact that there is substantial academic interest in the Initiative from a variety of academic fields, including history, archeology, anthropology, comparative religious studies, etc., the Initiative will very frequently draw upon both the local and international academic communities in support of various projects. This involvement can include direct participation in a project from an individual or an entire academic department, in addition to and town/gown forums and activities.
